Provinsi Sumatera Utara - Sumut or the Province of North Sumatera is a province of Indonesia, situated on the island of Sumatra. The Province is bordered to Aceh province in the northwest, Riau and West Sumatra provinces in the southeast. The Province of Sumatera Utara has an area of 72,981.23 km2 with capital city is Medan. The Province is recognized as the fourth largest province in Indonesia after West Java, East Java and Central Java. According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) 2010 national cencus, the Province recorded a population of 12,985,075 people. The Province of North Sumatera is administratively divided into 25 regencies and 8 autonomous cities. The Current governor of North Sumatera is Gatot Pujo Nugroho. He is the governor of North Sumatera province for 2013-2018 term.
